Personal statement
Tom Westwood is a Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Architecture course at the Bath School of Design. He is passionate about architecture that is sustainable at its core; designed around material use, energy use, adaptability and inhabitability.
Tom spent over 20 years in architectural practice and has extensive experience of designing dense residential and commercial buildings. He also has a particular expertise in modern timber construction, spending his last 11 years in practice at Waugh Thistleton Architects.
Tom's teaching philosophy is that by engaging with the real world students are empowered as change makers, and that supporting students' particular passions and enthusiasms is key to their growth and identity.
