Here you'll find practical advice if there's an issue with your accommodation, and and guidance on settling in with new people.
Maintenance and Repairs
Maintenance and Repairs
If you live in BSU-managed halls and discover something is damaged or not working correctly in your accommodation, it must be reported promptly to the Maintenance Team via the MyServices online maintenance request form.
To access the form on MyServices, , log in and select “Log a Buildings Maintenance request”.
Then follow these simple steps to make your request:
- Start typing the name of your building in the “Property” box. This should populate the drop-down options.
- Select which floor you are on.
- Type your room number (LE.A01 for example) or use the blue arrow next to the “Space” box to find your room.
- Select the appropriate option from the “Request” drop down menu.
- In “Description” please type what the problem is and what you need help with. Please include as much information as possible about the issue (the exact location, severity of problem, how long it has been a problem etc.)
You can request that you are present during the maintenance work. A member of the Maintenance Team will call or email you to arrange a suitable time.
When a request for maintenance has been received you will be sent an email confirmation. Please note that by logging a job, you are requesting support as soon as possible. Therefore, unless you asked for a specific date, Maintenance staff will attend at their earliest opportunity.
If you report a repair outside of office hours (Monday - Friday, 10:00-16:00) the request will likely be responded to the next working day.
If you discover an issue that requires immediate action to be taken, (e.g. serious flooding and leaks, loss of water supply, complete loss of all electricity, hazards affecting immediate safety of residents) please contact the Security Team at Newton Park on 01225 875555. Agree on your living arrangements as a group
Worried about sharing your space with new people? That’s understandable – everyone's an individual and we all have different preferences and needs. Our advice is to communicate clearly and respectfully. Discuss your expectations and agree as a group how you’ll solve any day-to-day issues that come up. We provide a to get things started and give you a framework to work from.
Sharing a communal space is easier when you and your housemates know when cleaning gets done, which household essentials will be shared, who’ll do the recycling, and what time you turn down the music. Remember to always treat each other with dignity and respect.
Lifestyle preferences
You probably hope to meet like-minded people at your uni halls, which is why our friendly Accommodation team is here to support you throughout the application process. On the application form for accommodation, you can state your preferences for your halls, for example:
- Quiet
- Alcohol free
- Mature students
- Single sex/gender
- LGBTQ+
We’ll do our best to cater for your preferences and bring you closer to other students who share your characteristics and values.
