Personal statement
Rose is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Management and the Course Leader for BA (Hons) Tourism and Events Management. Rose has a background in education and has also worked across a range of events and festivals. Rose has many years' experience of teaching Business, Economics and ICT at both secondary and further education institutions, before specialising in careers guidance and widening participation. As a qualified Careers Adviser, Rose has several years’ experience supporting young people with their early career development. Through these roles, she also ran many large-scale events with employers and other stakeholders.
Before joining ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿, Rose worked for The Careers and Enterprise Company. This involved partnership work between employers and schools and colleges to influence their strategic careers and employability programmes for young people.
Through studying Business and Management at ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ herself, Rose developed a love of learning and has since embarked on a journey of lifelong learning. She enjoys research and during her Master of Research (MRes), she specialised in creative research methods. Her research project focused on the career journeys of adults that came from underrepresented backgrounds working in education, using digital storytelling research methods. This has now progressed into PhD study where Rose is exploring the student journey. The PhD thesis title is 'Navigating Choices at University: Exploring Student Perspectives'. Rose hopes to use her research findings to support students to have the best possible experiences at university.
Outside of her lecturing work, Rose also volunteers for Glastonbury Festival and other local organisations, with interests in community events, volunteer management, and supporting running initiatives such as parkrun and Run, Talk, Run.
She is keen to support students to make the most of employability opportunities whilst at university such as the placement modules and Professional Placement Year, and to develop their transferable skills in events and project management.
