Personal statement
Claire is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿, where she teaches across a range of modules within the programme. She brings extensive experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels across psychology, counselling, and education.
Her primary areas of expertise and interest lie in counselling and mental health. She previously served as a Programme Leader and Lecturer on a counselling practitioner degree for eight years, drawing on over twenty years of professional experience working with adults and young people in mental health and wellbeing settings. During this time, she has been privileged to train hundreds of counselling practitioners.
Her experience also extends to higher education leadership, having led several academic teams and programme areas, and overseen the design and development of both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in counselling. She is committed to developing programmes that are contemporary, fit for purpose, and responsive to changes in society and professional regulatory requirements.
She also brings this wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as a Link Tutor for two partner institutions of ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿, where she supports counselling and psychology programmes.
Her academic journey spans psychology, sociology, education, and counselling, and she brings this interdisciplinary perspective to her teaching and research, recognising the importance of integrating diverse perspectives to inform inclusive, evidence-based practice in education, mental health, and psychology.
She completed her doctorate in Education, where she explored adolescents’ perceptions of mental health within educational settings, foregrounding creative and therapeutic approaches to data collection and analysis. Her current research projects lie in research ethics and creative methodologies, and she is actively developing her research and publication profile in this area.
