Student Ambassador role boosts Elliott’s confidence and career goals

Wednesday, 2 September, 2026

Whether they're welcoming visitors at Open Days, leading campus tours or representing BSU at UCAS exhibitions across the country, our Student Ambassadors play an important role in helping prospective students discover what life at BSU is really like.

The Student Ambassador Scheme offers students the opportunity to earn alongside their studies while developing valuable employability skills through a variety of flexible, paid roles. Ambassadors support recruitment events both on and off campus, answer questions from prospective students and their families, and share their own experiences of studying at Bath Spa.

For Sports Management graduate Elliott, the role became one of the defining experiences of his time at university.

Initially joining the scheme for the flexibility it offered around his studies, Elliott soon found himself taking part in a wide range of events, including Open Days, Offer Holder Days, UCAS exhibitions, Higher Education fairs, campus tours and digital ambassador activities.

"I originally saw it as a job that paid well and fitted around my studies. Little did I know what this job would become for me. From the people I've met and the connections I've made to the memories and experiences I'll never forget, it's helped me develop both personally and professionally."

Working with prospective students gave Elliott the opportunity to share his own journey at BSU while helping others make one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Alongside developing his communication and public speaking skills, the role gave him the confidence to step outside his comfort zone by travelling to recruitment events across the UK and working with colleagues from across the University.

The experience also helped Elliott develop essential skills in teamwork, organisation and time management, all while balancing his studies with flexible paid work.

Beyond the practical experience, Elliott says the people he met made the biggest difference. From fellow Student Ambassadors to academic staff and external contacts, the connections he built have continued to support him beyond graduation.

Now exploring careers in Higher Education student recruitment and the sports industry, Elliott credits the Student Ambassador Scheme with helping him discover his future direction.

"The more you put into the role, the more you get out of it. Every event is an opportunity to build your confidence, meet new people and make connections that could help shape your future."

For students looking to gain real-world experience, earn alongside their studies and become part of a welcoming community, the Student Ambassador Scheme offers the chance to develop skills, build confidence and make a real difference to future BSU students.
