Thinking Out Loud: Commercial Music Graduate Jacques Anderson reflects on his journey from student to touring with Ed Sheeran

Tuesday, 11 August, 2026

When Jacques Anderson enrolled onto ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿'s Commercial Music Integrated Master's degree, he imagined a future making and producing music. Today, he’s travelling the globe as part of Ed Sheeran's touring crew, working behind the scenes to deliver one of the world's biggest live music productions.

Having already worked alongside artists including Fatboy Slim, Nile Rodgers and Peter Kay, Jacques is now part of the Major Tom Audio team on Ed Sheeran's current global stadium tour, taking him across Europe, Australia, Latin America and North America.

Reflecting on his time at BSU, Jacques says it was the combination of creative freedom and collaboration that shaped both his career and his outlook:

"I absolutely loved my time at Spa. I loved Commercial Music, I loved the social aspects of university and writing with loads of different people throughout my time there. I spent so much time in the studios producing music and experimenting. It was great fun.

I always knew I wanted to work in music. Initially, I thought I wanted to be the artist, but my journey led me somewhere different. It turns out my passion was working behind the scenes in live events, and that's where I've found my place."

After graduating, Jacques stayed in Bath, taking a role at Komedia while continuing to build his technical skills. A conversation with a fellow BSU graduate eventually led him to, one of the UK's leading live audio production companies, where he learned on the job before progressing to major arena and stadium tours.

Reflecting on that journey, Jacques believes saying yes to opportunities has been the biggest lesson he's learned:

"One thing I've always taken with me is to never say no to any opportunity, no matter how big or small it might be. Just take it and run with it because you never know what conversation might lead to the next thing."

That approach has opened doors to work on some of the world's biggest live productions. Alongside supporting major tours for artists including Fatboy Slim and Nile Rodgers, Jacques now works on Ed Sheeran's international stadium tour, helping deliver performances for tens of thousands of fans each night.

Jacques explained:

“I first met Ed as we’re both from Suffolk and my work sent me there to set up audio for a private party at his house. From there, I put my hat in the ring to join his tour when they were mixing up the audio team.

Before each show, we’ll do a quick check of his earpieces before he goes on stage. I’m one of the only audio crew that gets to chat to him before a show and, being from Suffolk, he always asks me if I’ve found any Aspall Cider, no matter where we are in the world.”

Although the scale of the productions has changed, Jacques says the passion that began during his time at BSU remains the same:

"I've always been passionate about gigs and music. I just didn't really know where I'd end up. Eventually I channelled all that passion into live events, and that's what's led me to where I am now."

Despite spending much of the year travelling internationally, Bath continues to hold a special place in Jacques' heart.

"I loved university and I loved Bath so much that I wanted to stay after I graduated. Even though I'm away for most of the year now, I'll always go back. I'll always call Bath home."

For current students hoping to build careers in the creative industries, Jacques says remaining open to new experiences can make all the difference.

"You never know where one opportunity or one conversation will take you. Just keep saying yes."
