Bath named the Happiest City in the World

Friday, 10 July, 2026

Bath has been named the happiest city in the world, according to a new global survey by Time Out and Intrepid Travel.

The annual study asked more than 24,000 people worldwide about life in their city, exploring everything from community and green spaces to culture and overall wellbeing. Bath topped the global rankings, ahead of cities including Melbourne, Chicago, São Paulo and Medellín.

The city received exceptionally high scores across a range of measures, with 93% of residents saying living in Bath makes them happy and 92% reporting they feel happier there than elsewhere. Respondents also highlighted the city's strong sense of community, with more than eight in ten saying it is easy to find community and that they feel a strong sense of belonging.

The recognition adds to Bath's growing reputation as one of the UK's most desirable places to live, study and work. Alongside its rich history and UNESCO World Heritage status, the city is celebrated for its green spaces, vibrant cultural scene and welcoming atmosphere.

For ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ students, the ranking reflects the experience of studying in a city that places wellbeing and community at its heart. The University's numerous campuses across the city provide easy access to outdoor spaces, independent businesses, museums and creative industries, offering students opportunities to connect with the local community alongside their studies.

The ranking also highlights Bath's commitment to sustainability and quality of life. Earlier this year, ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ was recognised as the second most sustainable university in the UK in the People & Planet University League, reflecting the University's ongoing commitment to creating a more sustainable future for its students, staff and wider community.

Whether through its thriving creative sector, beautiful surroundings or strong community spirit, Bath continues to offer an environment where people can flourish – making it an inspiring place to live, learn and create.
