Emerge celebrates its annual Showcase
Friday, 23 October, 2026ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿’s graduate studio residency programme, Emerge, hosted its annual Showcase on Thursday 15 October, inviting the exhibiting artists, performers, creative technologists, and members of the public to come together and celebrate.
Based at BSU's Sion Hill campus, Emerge is a flagship initiative supporting graduates and community creatives through dedicated studio space, residencies, membership opportunities and tailored professional development.
Curated by Artists in Residence, Dr Tom Mence and Poppy Maby, the Showcase kicked off with an opening party where visitors were invited to explore an exhibition of work, enjoy live music and connect with people from across Bath’s arts and cultural scene.
The event also celebrated Emerge’s new partnerships with Cultural Partners in Residence, Bath Carnival, showcased through a photography exhibition, and Future Fashion Works' Somer Store, whose newly sponsored design residents also took part.

Alongside the Showcase, the celebration included an awards presentation, recognising residents who have made outstanding contributions to their own creative development and the wider community. Award winners were presented with awards designed by Tiger Scott and Morgan Jeffries, both previous Emerge residents.
The Growth Award
The Growth Award was presented to two residents this year: Artist in Residence, Lily Serendipity and Performer in Residence, Ross Corbet. Taking a significant step in her career, Lily has become a full-time practising artist since joining Emerge, securing commissions and funding for her work.
During Ross' residency, he developed, wrote and performed his one-man show, Hell in a High Vis, and founded his own theatre company, Bees Knees.
The Community Award
The Community Award went to Creative Technologist in Residence Merlin Goldman, who has worked with and supported numerous residents while continuing to develop his own practice. While at Emerge, he has secured residencies with Pervasive Media in Bristol and The Studio at Palace Yard Mews and led sessions exploring how to manage neurodivergence and creative practice.
The Creative Mentor Award
The Creative Mentor Award was presented to Charlie Day in recognition of his impact on Emerge’s performance residents. He has also developed his own career as a comedy writer and performer. His latest work travelled to the Hollywood Fringe, where it received nominations for both Best International and Best Solo Show.
The celebrations continued on Friday 16 October with Emerge’s first music event, held at Roseberry Road Studios and featuring Artist in Residence Flo Breeze. Discussing the Showcase, Emerge Studio Manager, Charlotte Godfrey said:
"The Emerge Showcase celebrated the professional development, creative achievements and growth of our members over the past year, while also offering a glimpse into the exciting work ahead.
"The evening reflected the strength and generosity of our community, with artists, supporters and guests coming together to mark the culmination of this year's residency. We are looking forward to the year ahead, with a new residency cohort commencing in November and our recent move to the Creative Engagement Unit, led by Dr Natasha Kidd."
