Locksbrook Late: The Indeterminate Building

Thursday 17 September, 2026 – Thursday 17 September, 2026
5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Locksbrook Campus, Locksbrook Road, BA1 3EL

Marking three overlapping anniversaries - 50 years since the Herman Miller Action Factory opened, 10 years since its transformation into Bath School of Art and Design, and the first year following the death of its architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw - this exhibition takes its title from a 1976 manifesto written for the building itself.

To celebrate, BSU is launching a year-long programme exploring the local, national and global significance of the Locksbrook building, its cultures and communities. Through archival research, new creative commissions, public events and community engagement, the project traces the building's past, present and future - from the ethos behind Grimshaw's original design, to the furniture made in the factory, its conversion from factory to university, and the culture of design and making that continues today.

Join us for this special Locksbrook Late event to mark the launch of The Indeterminate Building. The evening will include:

  • An exhibition tracing the building's story — from factory to university, and its enduring culture of design and making – Curated by Matthew Page
  • Uplighting of  Locksbrook by Kyle Roberts
