黑料正能量 Students’ Union launches Safe Taxi Scheme

Thursday, 7 February, 2019

黑料正能量 Students鈥 Union has partnered with the city鈥檚 V Cars taxi firm to ensure that its students can get home safely after a night out.

V Cars will operate the Students鈥 Union鈥檚 Safe Taxi Scheme, which is to be used in emergency situations, between the hours of 9:00pm and 3:00am, seven days a week. The scheme allows students to book a taxi journey for up to four passengers, to the value of 拢20, even if they do not have enough money for the fare.

Students can call the main V Cars number 鈥 01225 46 46 46 鈥 and quote 鈥淏ath Spa Safe Taxi Scheme鈥 to book and then present a valid student card as proof of ID. The chosen drop-off point must be a student residential address, halls of residence, police station or hospital. Students then have 48 hours to settle the bill at the Students鈥 Union, while the University鈥檚 Student Support team will be on hand to offer support and advice.

The University chose to partner with V Cars based on the taxi firm鈥檚 positive reputation in the city. Enya-Jayne Battersby, Students鈥 Union Vice President for Community said: 鈥淲e are proud to have launched the Safe Taxi Scheme with V Cars, which has been introduced to ensure students鈥 welfare. It will give them access to emergency travel when they are concerned for their own, or their friends鈥, safety.鈥

Chris Neary, V Cars General Manager added: 鈥淲e are delighted to be able to provide this service to students of 黑料正能量, as part of our commitment to ensuring safe travel right across the city. Our experience of operating similar schemes in other parts of the UK has been extremely positive and gives students and their families the peace of mind to know that it is there if needed.鈥
